There are very few things in the world that beat the first sip of an ice-cold strawberry slush on a hot summer day.

A slush is, without a doubt, one of the most refreshing drinks that exist, and a firm favorite among so many people.

You can get lots of different flavor options when it comes to slushes, but in our opinion, you can’t beat the traditional strawberry flavor slush.

There’s no question that strawberries are the best fruit that exists, so it goes without saying that anything which is strawberry flavored is simply the best.

The only issue with slushes is that they can sometimes be difficult to find.

While they are regularly available during the summer months when it comes to the winter months, it can be hard to get your hands on a slush.

But there’s no need to worry because you can easily make a slush in the comfort of your own home.

So if you want a slush but can’t seem to find one, follow this guide and you’ll be tasting that delicious strawberry in no time.

What is a Slush?

Before we go any further, let’s quickly establish exactly what a slush is.

Named after the stage of melting that it is going through, a slush is made of ice that has been partially defrosted to make a texture and consistency that is drinkable.

Also commonly known as slushees or slushies, these sugary drinks are available in a variety of flavors meaning there is an option for everyone.

The majority of slushes are made with frozen non-carbonated beverages, however, there are a variety of variations where different methods are used to construct the slush.

A popular choice at carnivals and cinemas, slushes are enjoyed by people of all ages. But in particular, they are very popular among children.

Their popularity among the younger generations is what makes the inaccessibility of slushes hard during the winter months.

But thankfully you can easily make a slush at home to satisfy your little people’s needs. So if you want to know how to make a slush at home, keep reading.

Why would I want to make a Homemade Slush?

We’ve already covered the main reason why you may want to make a slush at home, however, you might still be asking yourself ‘why would I want to make a homemade slush?’.

Especially if you live near somewhere that sells slushes throughout the year. But even if you have easy access to a slush machine, you might still want to make your slushes at home, and we’ll tell you why.

The main reason that you may choose to make a slush at home rather than buying one is for health reasons. Store-bought slushes are incredibly high in sugar, and very unhealthy, especially if you drink them regularly.

After all, the majority of store-bought slushes are simply flavored sugar-syrup mixed with ice to produce this drink. So, if your child particularly likes slushes, you might choose to make them at home instead as you can then make a healthier version.

By making a slush at home you know exactly what is going into that drink, and in turn, know exactly what you or your child is drinking.

Homemade slushes can be made using real fruit for flavoring rather than unhealthy alternatives which is why they are popular among a lot of people who are health-conscious.

Our own slush recipe is one of these healthy alternatives, so if you fancy a slush but don’t want all the unhealthy stuff that comes along with it, keep on reading.

What you Need

Before you begin making your slush we would recommend gathering all of the ingredients and tools that you need.

To help you out we’ve put together this quick list of all the ingredients you need to make our strawberry slush.

You will need these ingredients:

  • 3 cups of quartered strawberries
  • 1.5 - 2 cups of ice (plus spares)
  • 2 teaspoons of honey

You may also choose to include other types of fruit such as raspberries or blackberries if you want to create a more unique flavor.

You will need these utensils:

  • Measuring cups
  • A knife and chopping board to prepare the fruit
  • A blender
  • 2 Glasses

What to Do

Once you have gathered your ingredients, you can then begin making your slush. You will first have to prepare the fruit.

We recommend quartering the strawberries so that they can mix nicely in the blender.

We would suggest using between 10 and 12 medium-sized strawberries, however, if you are including other fruits you could alter the ratio to suit the different flavors.

Once all the ingredients are prepared you should add your strawberries and the 2 teaspoons of honey into the blender. After the ingredients are added blend them together using the suggested speed of your blender.

You should then give the mixture a taste to ensure that there is enough honey in it. If you aren’t sure it tastes sweet enough, simply add some more until it reaches your desired taste.

After you are satisfied with the taste of the mixture, you can then add the ice cubes to the blender. We recommend starting with 1.5 to 2 cups of ice, however, you should keep spares just in case you are not satisfied with the texture.

Once you have added the ice, you should set the blender to high for a few minutes until the mixture is thick and icy.

You do not want a runny mixture, if this happens you have mixed it for too long and you should add more ice to try and make it thicker.

As soon as you are happy with both the taste and texture of your slush, simply pour it into the 2 glasses that you prepared and enjoy with either a straw or a spoon.

Summary

In short, it is very easy to make a strawberry slush. It requires a very small amount of ingredients and takes only a few minutes to complete.

So if you are looking for a healthy alternative to your regular slush, or simply fancy a quick and easy treat, you should consider making a strawberry slush.
